Who:The Gift of Swimming, Susan Polder, Executive Director What: Swimming Activities Where:Winter Garden The Gift of Swimming (GOS) gratefully acknowledges Track Shack Foundation for its grant. Again this year, one of our first groups of Head Start children came to us from Maxey Head Start Center, located minutes away in Winter Garden. These children began swimming in October and have been successfully evaluated in full clothes in early November. A true success story! Who: Blankner K-8, Coach Linda Prusaczyk What: Smile Mile Club Where: Orlando Coach Linda writes: We want to thank Track Shack Youth Foundation for supporting our club with a grant.The club is open for 1st -5th graders before school twice a week throughout the school year.This year (2016-2017) we had 250 students participate.We are very proud of the total miles completed.This club helps prepare students for a day of learning in the classroom and about living a healthy lifestyle.We used the money to purchase a special T-shirt and small prizes for every five miles completed. Who:Windy Ridge K-8, Coach Cheryl Savage What: Morning Mile Club Where: Orlando We are very proud of our Morning Mile program at Windy Ridge. The faculty, parents, and students realize the benefits of running/ walking the start of each school day because when the students enter the classroom, they are focused and ready to learn. This school year (2016-2017) at Windy Ridge we had one student who ran over 300 miles. His grandpa came and ran with him every morning and motivated many other students to run with them as well. In addition, we had 10 students run over 200 miles and 61 students run over 100 miles. Windy Ridge students ran/walked 40,880.8 miles this school year. ________________ Who: Lake Sybelia Elementary, Mel Soto What: Dolphin Dashers Where: Maitland The Lake Sybelia Dolphin Dashers is an elementary school running club that includes all grade levels.The running club takes place over the school year in two different sessions of about 9 weeks. The Dashers meet afterschool twice a week to run or walk laps around our 1/8 mile track on the school field. Last year we had 116 students participating and they completed a total of 2,890 miles.This past school year is the 4th year for the running club that originally began with only 30 participants.This upcoming year we are beginning the Dolphin Darters alongside the Dashers.This group will be a more competitive group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.The goal of the club is to provide children with an opportunity to be active with their peers.
