Most significant is the intense level of friendship and team spirit felt at the event itself. Because employee fitness and health issues are such an important part of what IOA is about, the Insurance Office of America Corporate 5k is the largest company event and employees and agents are encouraged to participate. To make it possible for every employee to participate, registration fees for all IOA employees and immediate family members are company paid. Bus transportation is provided to and from the race. A post race dinner is held at the IOA tent for everyone who participates on the IOA 5k Team. IOA employees and agents attend this event from branches in Tampa, Atlanta and even as far north as New Jersey. INSURANCE OFFICE OF AMERICA MAKES EMPLOYEE HEALTH & FITNESS TOP PRIORITY IOA EMPLOYEE PARTICIPATION By DEBBIE GROSS, SPECIAL EVENT & CHARITY COORDINATOR AT INSURANCE OFFICE OF AMERICA At Insurance Office of America’s corporate headquarters in Longwood, employees are preparing for the annual Corporate 5k in April. Throughout the office you’ll find motivational posters and sayings encouraging our 300+ employees and producers training for the downtown 5k but also fun initiatives to be“giving” corporate citizens as well. The IOA Jeans Outreach event began in January 2016. Each month we choose a different charity to lend an IOA Helping Hand. For a donation of $20.00 IOA employees can wear jeans every day during the entire month. We have once again designated Second Harvest Food Bank as the recipient of our IOA March Jeans Outreach event. Last March we raised over $2,000.00 for Second Harvest. We also donate food. In 2016, we were able to lend our support to SafeHouse of Seminole, American Heart Association, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, A Gift for Teaching- Seminole and Kaleb Kares. We give the employees a break from giving during the summer months, although we still host a school supply and backpack drive during July & August. With this simple $20.00 a month Jeans Outreach event I am proud to say that in 2016 we were able to donate $22,643.00 to nonprofit organizations. What makes this extra special is that this money comes directly from our employees. “This is not a corporate donation this is an IOA Family donation,” says Debbie Gross, Events & Charity Coordinator. If only more small businesses and/or large corporations could host a Jeans Outreach event just think how many nonprofit organizations would benefit. It really is a win-win for everyone involved. From jeans to running shoes, our IOA family is ready to give back and be healthy! SPOTLIGHT DRESS DOWN TO HELP OUT
