Cesar Torrealba looked like the luckiest guy in the room at the Team Captain’s celebration, held February 29 to kick off the 30th SimplyIOA Corporate 5k presented by Key HR. Through the prize drawings he won a golf bag AND tickets to Walt Disney World!
Besides having the hot hand that night, Cesar’s genuine enthusiasm for fitness and the Corporate 5k is infectious. We caught up with Cesar, team captain of his Corporate 5k team and the founder of CJT Construction Corp, a local company that specializes in installation, repairs, and cleaning of gutters, particularly in seamless gutters.

How many years has CJT Construction Corp done the Corporate 5k?
This is the second time for CJT, but I ran this event a couple of times.
How have you inspired your co-workers and friends to get active and enjoy a healthy lifestyle?
As a former spinning instructor, I always enjoyed the vibrant energy in my classes, with everyone participating and enjoying the experience together. Even though I’m no longer an instructor, I’ve continued to motivate my co-workers and friends by leading by example of an active lifestyle. Now, as the Lead Ambassador of Latinos Run Orlando, I invite them to join me in running and other organized activities. Additionally, as someone who loves to travel, I always seek out races to enjoy trips from every perspective.
Tell us about your teammate who did her first 5k at the Corporate 5k and within a year became a marathoner.
In a sea of first-timers, two individuals emerged as beacons of inspiration. Alexandra’s journey epitomized the transformative power of running, strengthening our bonds as she fearlessly conquered her first Half Marathon in Miami with her husband Bennie. Meanwhile, Mariel’s resilience and determination were nothing short of awe-inspiring. Despite battling discomfort, she walked the 5k with unwavering resolve, completing it in 55 minutes. A whimsical suggestion led Mariel to enter the Tokyo Marathon lottery, and to our collective amazement, she seized the opportunity. This year, she soared to new heights, crossing the finish line of her first marathon alongside my wife, Katherine. Their remarkable feats serve as a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the limitless potential that lies within each of us.
What is most important to your company right now?
The most important thing for my company right now is to continue growing, not just as a gutters or construction company, but also as an inspiration to others. I came to this country 8 years ago with many dreams, and I’m still here, fulfilling them and setting new goals. It is important to let others know that anything is possible with hard work and honesty, without harming others, of course, and while leading a healthy lifestyle. Hosting events like these allows us to share in a positive and healthy way.
