Most people come to know who they are when they reach their 30s. You may have found love, your career or calling, you might’ve even filled into who you are truly meant to be. The same goes for the ASICS Gel-Kayano 30. There’s been a big cosmetic update to the Japanese premium stability shoe that welcomes newcomers to the shoe, while not overlooking those that have followed the Kayano series for the last 30 years.

The 30th edition of the Kayano introduces shoe technology that’s been tested in models like the Kayano Lite series. New to the Kayano 30 is a wide platform of a FlyteFoam Blast+ Eco midsole. The idea is to create a soft, smooth transition in the runners’ stride while not sacrificing any stability. In addition to the midsole is the 4D Guidance System. Essentially a fancy term for posting. This is taking over for the Lite Truss system that was used in the Kayano 29. While the posting is not as obvious and it feels softer, the shoe is still incredibly stable.

This is the first Kayano to introduce PureGEL. There’s now a slither of that GEL that you typically see on the outside of the heel, right underneath the padding of your heel inside the shoe. It felt softer to some others who tested it, than to me (#skinnyqueen) but it is very plush.

Last major note about the Kayano 30 is the upper. It’s the typical engineered mesh that you find in most new running shoes. The only notable thing about this one is that it’s from ASICS. That means a somewhat narrow/snug fit. It is very breathable, but I feel like we’re in a time of shoe tech where uppers won’t typically be groundbreaking.
