UCAN, Sports Nutrition That Will Give You More Energy Without The Crash

By Sean Obinwa, Shoe Expert at Track Shack and Former Collegiate Elite Athlete

It’s almost time to run your favorite race, but during your last run you just didn’t have quite the kick to finish as strong as you wanted. So now you’ve done some searching and have come across products that will give you a boost in energy.

However, most of them have sugar. And we know sugar can give you that crash feeling during a run. Luckily there is a company that has a very unique ingredient that does not use ingredients that spike your blood pressure. They go by Generation UCAN.

So what’s this unique ingredient? UCAN products use what is called superstarch. Superstarch is “a complex carbohydrate (derived from non-GMO corn) that uniquely stabilizes blood sugar and causes virtually no reaction from the fat-storage hormone insulin”.

When this starch hits your bloodstream, it releases energy in a slow release manner. This gives you more energy over time rather than that quick jolt buzz to only leave you feeling like a slug by the end of a run. UCAN’s awesome products are a healthier alternative to some of the other sugar based brands. It can be used in multiple sports as well. So if you are that weekend warrior who tackles every sport known to man, then you are going to want this to fuel up with.

See, we are so used to the idea of eating a bunch of pasta or bread the day before a big run. That is fine and all, but what about the day of? You always want to make sure you are hydrated and fed properly before a race. With UCAN all you have to do is mix a single packet or a couple scoops into your drink. Drink it 30 minutes to an hour before your run and have sustained energy for your entire run up to 2 hours. This product is backed by science and professional runners like Meb Keflezighi. It definitely works and there are some great flavors to choose from. If you don’t want to drink UCAN products, you can also eat them as a before or after snack.

UCAN is perfect for the marathon and any race below it. Of course depending on your goal time take as much UCAN as needed. UCAN drink mix comes in 2 different sizes: giant tub or single serving. We recommend first trying the small single serving to test on a run. So if you are looking for something different from gels and caffeine then is a great product to try next time you are in the store!    We’ll be sampling the product at the U Can Finish 5 Mile and 2 Mile presented by Florida Hospital on Sunday. October 29 at UCF.
